Great Links

Internet Security

  • Check to see how secure your PC is at ShieldsUP! Page down until you see the link for ShieldsUP! under Hot Spots.

General Information

  • If you like to learn about a variety of subjects, such as Life in the Middle Ages, volcanoes, or DNA, have fun with the interactive tutorials at Learner.org/interactives.
  • Get the real scoop on that charity you're thinking of supporting at CharityNavigator.org.
  • Are you a motivated poet or songwriter? Can't rhyme that last line? Then Rhymezone is for you.

Genealogy

  • One of the best free genealogy databases is at FamilySearch.org - provided by the LDS church. (Many of their churches have Genealogy Centers where, for a small fee, you can view parish records and other documents.)
  • Information about your Great Britain ancestors may be found at RootsChat. Register for free, then search a large database and post queries. Many of its members reside in the UK and either have copies of parish transcripts or will look up information for you.
  • Did your ancestors pass through Ellis Island? Find their passenger records and a picture of the ship at the Ellis Island website. A free login is required.

Health

  • If you get frustrated with the "miracle herb of the week," visit the CSPI website. The Center for Science in the Public Interest is a non-profit whose scientists scrutinize research studies and provide objective information. CSPI offers the inexpensive Nutrition Action Newsletter as well.
  • A small site with good information is The Brain Event. They have links to the best free puzzles on the Internet. They also have an excellent article about Dietary Fats and Omega-3 Oils.
  • Raise a healthy child with help from KidsHealth.org. This popular site has separate sections for adolecents, teens, and parents.

Free Clip Art

  • The best free clip art website I have found is WP Clipart. Not only is the art very good and well-organized, but you may use the clip art for personal or commercial projects.
