Google Email (Gmail) User's Guide: Contacts and Groups

How Do I Add a Contact in Google Gmail?

  1. Go into your Gmail account. On the left sidebar, click Contacts. Then click My Contacts.
  2. Click the New Contact button. A data entry form appears at right.
  3. Type a name for the contact. If this is all the information you wish to enter at this time, click Save now. If data is entered into any of the other fields, Google may automatically save the contact, and will display a "saved" message whenever data is entered into a data field. If for some reason the contact is not saved, click Save now.

How Do I Delete a Contact in Google Gmail?

  1. Go into your Gmail account. On the left sidebar, click Contacts. Then click My Contacts. The list of contacts appears to the right.
  2. Find the contact you want to delete and put a checkmark in the box beside it. Then click the arrow next to More actions and click Delete contact.
  3. Google will display a confirming message that the contact has been deleted.

How Do I Create a New Group in Google Gmail?

  1. Go into your Gmail account. On the left sidebar, click Contacts.
  2. Then, in the left sidebar, click New Group. When a window pops up requesting a name for the group, type the group name and click OK.
  3. Google will display a confirmation message that the group has been created.

How Do I Add a Contact to a Group in Google Gmail?

  1. Go into your Gmail account. On the left sidebar, click Contacts. Click My Contacts if necessary.
  2. Put a checkmark in the box next to the contact you wish to add to the specific group. Multiple contacts may be checked.
  3. Click the arrow next to Groups and click on the group name to select it.
  4. Google will display a message that that the contact has been added to the group.

How Do I Delete a Contact From a Group in Google Gmail?

  1. Go into your Gmail account. On the left sidebar, click Contacts. Click My Contacts if necessary.
  2. Either: Select the contact name(s) from the list of contacts, click the little arrow next to Groups, and click on the group name to deselect it. Click Apply if displayed.
  3. Or: Click the name of the group first (handy if you have many contacts), then place a checkmark next to the contact name and follow the directions above.
  4. Google will display a confirmation message

How Do I Delete a Group in Google Gmail?

  1. Go into your Gmail account. On the left sidebar, click Contacts. A list of your contacts appears at right.
  2. In the left sidebar, click on the Name of the Group you want to delete. Click the small arrow next to More actions and click Delete group.
  3. When Google asks if you are sure you want to delete this group, click OK. Google will display a message that the group has been deleted."

How Do I Change a Contact's Information?

  1. Go into your Gmail account. On the left sidebar, click Contacts. Then click My Contacts if not displayed.
  2. Either double-click on the name of the contact, or hover the cursor over the contact name, click the little arrow next to More, and click Contact details.
  3. Enter the new or changed information email address and click Save now.
  4. Google displays a confirmation message.
