Author: Patricia Lynn

Facts Regarding your NWA WorldPerks Account:

Disclaimer: Keynote Support is providing general information in a highly readable format as a service to the visitor. We have made every effort to provide information accurate as to the date of this article, but it is the reader's responsibility to visit the official websites of the various companies involved for complete information.

Here is the latest information about the NWA WorldPerks and Delta SkyMiles merger.

  • The NWA WorldPerks program is going away and the Delta SkyMiles program is remaining. You can view the Program Integration Timeline on the Delta website.
  • It is too late to link your WorldPerks and SkyMiles accounts. The link is no longer functional.
  • If you merged your WorldPerks and SkyMiles accounts, you should receive an email from Delta in October indicating that the consolidation of your accounts is complete.
  • If you did not merge your WorldPerks and SkyMiles accounts, you have been assigned a 10-digit SkyMiles account number by Delta to replace your WorldPerks number. You will receive your new SkyMiles account information by email or via the U.S. Postal Service.
  • If you end up with two SkyMiles accounts in your name, do not fret. Delta has announced the capacity for a single individual to merge two accounts. After reading the rest of this article, go to Delta's Merge Duplicate SkyMiles Accounts webpage. However, please note that the consolidation of accounts will not be successful unless the first and last names on the account match.
  • In October you will stop receiving emails from the Northwest Airlines WorldPerks program. However, the two airlines will continue to operate separately until the merger is fully completed in early 2010.
  • Once you provide Delta with an email address, you will receive 3-5 emails a week. You can unsubscribe, but some of Delta's Weekly Specials are pretty good! And the email gives you the specials from the airport you use.
  • To review the Delta SkyMiles program details, visit the Membership Guide & Program Rules section of the Delta website.
  • If you will qualify for the Delta Medallion program in 2010, Delta has just announced the 2010 SkyMiles Medallion Program benefits.

Facts Regarding the FlexPerks Travel Rewards Visa from U.S. Bank:

Your existing WorldPerks Visa Credit Card is now void. U.S. Bank sent you a FlexPerks Visa Credit Card to “replace” your WorldPerks Visa Card. The facts are:

  • The miles accumulated by the new FlexPerks Visa credit card have no connection with your Delta SkyMiles account or your NWA WorldPerks account.
  • The miles accumulated by this credit card go into an account U.S. Bank has opened for you in their new frequent flyer program called the FlexPerks Travel Reward Program.
  • Depending on what type of WorldPerks Visa card you had, it will be replaced by one of three new U.S. Bank FlexPerks Visa cards.
  • The account number on your FlexPerks Visa is the same as your old WorldPerks Visa account number.
  • For most FlexPerks Travel Rewards Visa Signature cards, after activation, you will automatically receive 10,000 flexpoints if you spend $500 in net purchases by 10/31/09. (Offer may differ for Select and Business Visa cards; read your documentation).
  • You can redeem points via telephone (888-229-8864) or online. To redeem points online, you must sign up for Internet Banking with U.S. Bank. Don't panic. We documented the steps in our FlexPerks Visa - Signing Up to Redeem Points tutorial.
  • For most FlexPerks Travel Rewards Visa Signature cards, you will receive 5,000 bonus flexpoints IF you register at flexperks.com/freeflight10 using promo code 36991, AND spend an additional $4,500 (net) by 10/31/09. (Note: Your offer may be different; read the documentation that came with your Visa card!)
  • Your registration for bonus FlexPoints will be void if the promo code you enter does not match the promo code that was specified in the documentation that came with your card.
  • U.S. Bank says bonus points may take 6-8 weeks to be posted to your account.

Is the U.S. Bank FlexPerks program a good frequent flyer program? Well, their marketing materials make the program sound attractive, but few folks have had the chance to redeem points for flights. U.S. Bank has partnered with Travelocity, and their award rules are available on the Internet. FlexPoints can also be used to purchase items other then air travel.

Should you activate the new FlexPerks Visa credit card? It’s up to you. If you want to continue to have a Visa card, this is a painless way to do so - and you are undoubtedly used to dealing with U.S. Bank by now. But you can research other frequent flyer programs right away and not worry about paying a FlexPerks Visa annual fee because it has been waived for the first year to entice you to stay.

Facts Regarding Delta's SkyMiles Card:

If you were a WorldPerks member and do not have a Delta SkyMiles American Express card, you are receiving letters from Delta saying that you must apply for the SkyMiles card if you want to “continue” to accumulate miles with a credit card. (U.S. Bank and Delta are fighting for the credit card business of the old WorldPerks Visa account holders).

Technically this is true, but since you’ve had a Delta SkyMiles account all this time and have chosen not to have the Delta American Express card, it is probably because you don't want one. Why now? Be careful about saddling yourself with another bank card.

If you have been thinking about getting an American Express card to accumulate miles, and you know you can pay the balance in full each month, consider getting a regular American Express card and joining the American Express Rewards program. You can transfer your miles to a variety of airline frequent flyer accounts - not just Delta.

The New SunTrust SkyMiles Check Card is Announced:

If you are a SunTrust customer and use a check card, you may be interested in the new SunTrust SkyMiles Visa Check Card that was announced in June. SunTrust is offering two personal check cards and a business check card. According to the SunTrust website, "SunTrust and Delta have teamed up to introduce the SkyMiles Check Card that turns everyday purchases into Delta miles." Here is the link for information about the SunTrust SkyMiles Check Card if you are interested.

Hope this helps.
